Local risks in Balod

Bus fire with firecrackers, November 2026

At about 8 pm on 2 November 2026, a passenger bus from Rajnandgaon to Balod caught fire near Malighori village. Reports said firecrackers worth over Rs 1 lakh were on board and went off for about half an hour. All passengers got out and no injury was reported. The cause is not established, as we cover in a case study.

Firecrackers and flammables on passenger buses

Firecrackers are explosives. A bus has one or two doors, and a fire with crackers on board means rockets and blasts reach people standing outside too. Do not carry crackers, petrol or gas cylinders as a favour for someone, and tell the conductor if you see cartons that look like crackers being loaded.

Monsoon water near the Tandula

The Tandula river runs along the bank of Balod town, and the Tandula dam, built in 1912, adjoins the district headquarters. Average rainfall is about 1,090 mm, and about 93 percent of it falls between June and September, so the monsoon is the season to watch the water.

No published fire station list

The district portal prints no fire station list or fire number. Nine urban bodies are listed, two Nagar Palikas (Balod and Dalli Rajhara) and seven Nagar Panchayats, with no fire contact. Save 112 and tell the caller the village, the road and the nearest landmark.
