Local risks in Muzaffarpur

PNG pipeline hit by drain digging, November 2026

On 2 November 2026 a buried piped natural gas line was damaged while a roadside drain was being dug in the Gobarsahi area. The gas exploded and caught fire, one person died and at least six were hurt, officials said, and the District Magistrate ordered an inquiry. We cover it in a case study.

Gas leak near Rahua, July 2026

On 17 July 2026 a PNG line was reportedly damaged during drain work near Rahua village in Musahari block, and at least five schoolgirls were taken to the local health centre after breathing in the gas. The supply was shut off, repairs began and police opened an inquiry.

ICU fire at a private hospital, June 2026

Early on 4 June 2026 a fire broke out in the ICU of a private hospital in the Brahampura area and at least four patients died. A short circuit was the first suspicion and a probe was launched. Firefighters brought the other patients out of the smoke-filled building.

Gandak flood in the monsoon

On 30 September 2026 a report said the flood from heavy rain in the Gandak basin had spread to Muzaffarpur, Vaishali and Saran, with more than 200 villages affected across the north Bihar districts it covered. Keep this in mind from July to October.

Thin fire cover on paper

The state portal lists three fire stations for the district. A 2021 local report counted 24 fire vehicles, seven of them large and more than 15 years old, and said the district needed about 100. That figure is old, but it is a fair reason to keep extinguishers and a clear exit in shops and wards.
