On the evening of 24 October 2026, a furnace blast at the Shriram Power and Steel plant on the Kuju Naya Mod-Arra road burnt three or four workers, one of them seriously. No death had been reported by 26 October and the cause was not established; we cover it in a case study.

Local reports say the plant had earlier accidents, on 22 September 2025 and on 9 August 2026, and the reports differ on how many workers died, so we state no toll. Furnace and kiln work with molten metal is the main danger for the workers of the area.

Police said villagers were mining coal illegally at the site, a villager said the mine had been left open, and the district administration issued a show-cause notice to the coal company.

Damodar and Nalkari flood alert, July 2025

On 1 July 2025, the district administration issued a flood alert for the Nalkari and Damodar rivers because the Patratu dam was above its danger mark and its gates were likely to be opened. People living downstream were told to keep away from the riverbank and look after their cattle.
