Local risks in Rajkot

Game zones and entertainment venues

On 25 May 2024, fire swept through the TRP Game Zone on Nana-Mava Road and killed 27 people. Police and court records say it operated without the required fire authorisation, and CCTV-based reports described welding near combustible material before the fire spread.

Hospital ICU fires

Around 12.30 am on 27 November 2020, fire broke out in the ICU of the Uday Shivanand COVID hospital in the Anand Bungalow Chowk area; five patients died and 26 others were shifted out. The Deputy Chief Minister said a preliminary probe pointed to a short circuit in a ventilator.

Aji river overflow

On 31 August 2020, heavy rain flooded many areas of Rajkot after the Aji river started overflowing, according to ETV Bharat. Keep off low-lying roads and the riverbank when the river is rising.

Fire approvals and enforcement

After the game zone fire, the Gujarat High Court took up the matter on its own and, on 17 June 2024, ordered an inquiry into municipal responsibility. In January 2025, the state told the court that recruitment in the fire departments of Surat, Ahmedabad and Rajkot had made substantial progress, as reported by LiveLaw.
