Local risks in Nawada

Market fires far from a fire station

On the evening of 24 October 2026, a fire in the main market at Pakribarawan spread from a showroom to the Welcome Shopping Centre next door, and no death was reported. The block has no fire station, so tenders had to be called from other towns and reached the spot only after a wait of half an hour to an hour in different accounts; we cover it in a case study.

Lightning

On 24 July 2026, lightning struck a tree in Sangovar village, Nardiganj block, where people working in fields had taken shelter from a sudden rainstorm. Four people died on the spot and two women were critically injured.

Motorcycle and truck crashes

On the night of 5 June 2025, three friends riding one motorcycle hit a truck near the Kachana turn in the Pakribarawan area. Two died at the spot and the third died soon after reaching Sadar Hospital in Nawada.

Thatched-house fires, flood and earthquake

The state hazard profile says that most kutcha houses have thatch roofs and wooden structures, so in windy summer months a fire from a traditional stove can spread through a whole village. The same profile lists flood, drought and earthquake, with most of Bihar in seismic zones IV and V.
