Local risks in Siwan

Festival pandals and live-fire stage effects

On the night of 20 October 2026, a fire broke out on the stage during a play at a Durga Puja and Dussehra gathering in Rasulpur village, under Barharia police station. The SP said ten people, including five children, were hurt and five children with serious burns were sent to Patna; reports differ on what caught fire and a forensic team was called, so the cause was not settled as of 22 October. The district magistrate said four of the injured had gone home and four were referred to PMCH Patna, and the Saran DIG said organisers' negligence was evident prima facie. We cover it in a case study.

Shop, showroom and market fires

On 15 May 2024, a fire that began in a saw machine inside a house in Nautan market spread through the building, and fire constable Ravikant Mandal, 40, died when a roof fell on him; residents said one of the five fire engines had run out of water. On 23 July 2025, an AC unit was the suspected origin of a fire at the Raymond showroom in JP Chowk, where firefighters broke the glass to get in and four or five of them were hurt.

Ghaghra floods

In early September 2026, the Ghaghra was above the danger level at Darauli and Gangpur in Siwan, as part of a flood that affected nearly 35.89 lakh people across 14 Bihar districts. People living in floodplains were moved to safety and no casualties were reported at the time; no Siwan-only figures were given.

Village ponds, rivers and festival bathing

On the evening of 3 October 2026, three girls aged 14, 16 and 16 drowned in a pond in Rampur village; a police official said one girl got into trouble and the other two tried to save her. In September 2024, 43 people, 37 of them children, drowned while bathing during the Jivitputrika festival across 15 Bihar districts, Siwan among them.

Spurious liquor

In October 2024, 43 deaths from spurious liquor were reported, 30 of them in Siwan, 11 in Saran and two in Gopalganj, with 73 people in hospital and many losing their eyesight. Twelve people were arrested and the chief minister ordered an inquiry; the totals changed through that week, so treat any one figure with care.

Road crashes on the Gopalganj-Siwan road

On 13 May 2019, a bus from Gopalganj to Siwan lost a front tyre near Amroli and fell into a gorge; six deaths and dozens of injuries were reported, and villagers helped carry the injured to Sadar Hospital, Siwan. It is the one dated crash on this road we could confirm, so read it as a past example and not as a crash count.
