Local risks in Maredumilli

A wooden cottage burns at a resort

On the morning of 26 October 2026 a wooden cottage at a government-built resort on the Maredumilli to Chintur road caught fire and burnt down, with no one hurt. Staff called the Rampachodavaram fire station, and one account says the engine reached the spot after the cottage had burnt out, as we cover in a case study.

Ghat road bus crashes

On 12 December 2025 a bus with 37 people went off the Chintur to Maredumilli ghat road in fog; nine died and about 23 were hurt. Earlier crashes on the same stretch killed eight tourists in October 2019 and one pilgrim in May 2016, and after the 2025 crash the state ordered night travel on agency ghat roads stopped in fog-prone hours.

Monsoon floods cut the roads

In late September 2025 floodwater from the Godavari and Sabari cut most roads in the Rampachodavaram division for four days, with Chintur mandal worst hit. In September 2026 three days of rain caused landslides on ghat roads and cut off dozens of villages in the neighbouring hill district; neither report names Maredumilli.

Help can be slow in the forest

After the 2025 crash there was no mobile network at the spot, so police heard late, and in 2016 rescue teams took long to reach the dense forest. The injured were taken to Chintur or Rampachodavaram, and the most serious cases to Bhadrachalam, so a call for help should start early.
