Local risks in Simga

Dawn crashes on NH-130

At about 5.30 am on 26 October 2026, a private bus from Ambikapur to Raipur ran into the back of a broken-down truck standing on NH-130 near Darchura village. Three people died and reports spoke of up to five, with over a dozen hurt, as we cover in a case study.

Furnace blast at a sponge iron plant

On the morning of 22 January 2026, an explosion near a coal furnace at a sponge iron plant at Bakulahi village in Bhatapara area killed six workers and left five with severe burns. The plant area was sealed and a magistrate-led probe looked into ash leaking from a dust chamber at very high heat.

Rice mill fire at Chanderi

On the afternoon of 16 April 2025, a fire that began among stored sacks spread through a rice mill warehouse at Chanderi village in the Simga police station area. No one was hurt, but residents said the mill had no fire safety arrangements and that such fires happen there often.

Mahanadi and Shivnath floods

On 27 September 2026, rising water in the Mahanadi, Shivnath and Jonk rivers cut roads across Balodabazar district, submerged the Sabri bridge and put water on NH-130B. Water also ran over bridges at the Shivnath crossings, and rescue teams worked through the night.

Tehsil offices for any disaster

The district disaster page asks people to contact the Collector's disaster branch or their tehsil office, and lists the Simga tehsil office among them. It does not print phone numbers, so save 112 and 1070 first and ask the tehsil office for the local contact.
