Local risks in Manendragarh

Bus crashes on the Manendragarh to Kelhari road

On 22 October 2026, shortly after noon, a bus from Manendragarh left the road and hit a roadside tree at the Semarmathani turn near Pahad Hanswahi. Six people died and between 20 and 40 were injured depending on the report, and the cause was not established, as we cover in a case study.

Overloaded old buses

The police put 46 people on that bus, and another report said it had 25 seats and about 50 passengers. One report also described it as a former school bus.

Buses running with lapsed papers

One report said the bus had been registered in 2009 and its fitness and registration certificates lapsed on 19 June 2023. After the crash the state removed the district transport officer and began checking passenger buses.

Serious cases sent far from the crash site

Most of the injured were treated at the Manendragarh civil hospital, but two serious cases went to Ambikapur and two to the Chirmiri district hospital. Four people were reported critical.
