Local risks in Ambala

Building collapse during concrete work

On the afternoon of 27 September 2026, a building under construction collapsed at Dhulkot while workers were on or around a slab. Six people died and 12 were injured, and a special investigation team was formed. Accounts differ on which floor was being cast and the cause is not yet established. We cover it in a case study.

Monsoon floods

In July 2023, about 1,354 places in 12 Haryana districts, Ambala among them, were reported flooded, and the state issued a flood alert for the first time. An early government estimate put the losses at over Rs 500 crore across the state.

Old buildings with homes above shops

Ambala's Cloth Market is said to be the biggest textile market in the region. We have no dated Ambala market fire in our records, so the lesson comes from Arki in Himachal Pradesh, 87 km away, where fire spread through an old four-storey wooden building with shops below and families above on 12 January 2026, and 10 people died.
