Local risks in Pasighat

Siang floods and very heavy rain

On 10 and 11 October 2022 Pasighat recorded about 480 mm of rain on each day, the highest in 25 years by the district disaster officer's account. The Siang stayed below the danger mark, but a high alert went out for low-lying areas and the Sille river washed away 11 kV poles. On 1 July 2026 floodwater damaged homes and shops in East Siang and rescue teams brought 24 stranded people to safety.

Landslides that cut the roads

In the same October 2022 rain the Pasighat to Pangin road was cut at the 64 km mark and the Pasighat to Siger road was blocked in several places by landslides. In monsoon months plan for a road to close, with food, medicines and a charged phone at home.

Earthquakes in seismic zone V

Arunachal Pradesh lies in seismic zone V, the most severe class in the long-standing zoning. Shaking can also loosen hill slopes, which then block a river and may later burst through.

Night fire in the main market

In an earlier fire in the Pasighat market 27 shops were gutted and eight more were damaged, and no one was hurt. Four fire tenders were needed, and one came from Jonai in Assam and another from the Air Force.

Bandh days that turn violent

On 23 October 2026 a 12-hour bandh against a proposed dam project passed off peacefully by day, but in the evening an office was set on fire, part of a police station and several vehicles were burnt and houses were ransacked, as we cover in a case study. No deaths were reported, and an order barring gatherings of more than five people has applied since 24 October.

No published fire cover to rely on

The district pages print no fire station or fire number, so a call for fire goes to 101 or 112. Keep extinguishers in shops and offices and a second way out of every floor.
