Local risks in Banswada

Country bomb blast, November 2026

On 1 November 2026 country-made bombs made for hunting wild boar went off in Banswada mandal and hurt seven people, children among them. Police said such bombs are illegal and a case under the Explosives Act was reported. The reports differ on how serious the injuries were. We cover it in a case study.

Floods, August 2025

Extremely heavy rain in late August 2025 made Kamareddy one of the three worst-hit districts in Telangana, with Argonda recording about 43 cm of rain and more than 1,000 people rescued. Banswada town was not named in the reports we opened, but the whole district drains toward the Manjira.

Stream flood near Bichkunda, August 2025

On 18 August 2025, after gates of the Koulas Nala project were opened, four shepherds and 656 sheep were stranded on a small island at Shetloor, Bichkunda mandal. Firefighters, State Disaster Response Force teams and police rescued them, with the Banswada sub-collector supervising. Water released upstream can raise a stream within hours.

Rivers and dams

The Manjira is the main river of Kamareddy district, and the Nizamsagar dam sits across it in Nizamsagar mandal. The Kowlas Nala stream feeds a project in Jukkal and Bichkunda mandals, so riverbanks and low crossings need care when gates are opened.
