Local risks in Nadiad

Expressway crashes into stopped vehicles

On 17 April 2024, a vehicle carrying ten people ran into a tanker stopped in the extreme left lane of the Ahmedabad-Vadodara Expressway near Nadiad, and all ten died, as we cover in a case study. Police said the tanker had no light, reflector or warning out and the other vehicle was overtaking from the left at speed.

Paper mill and plastic factory fires

On 23 March 2025, a fire in a paper mill at Varsola, about 12 km from Nadiad, needed at least 10 fire tenders after the local fire chief asked for more help. On 29 May 2023, a fire at a plastic factory near Goblej drew eight tenders, with a short circuit suspected. No one was reported hurt in either.

Unlicensed firecracker units

On Saturday 27 June 2026, an illegal firecracker factory in Kapadvanj, in Kheda district, exploded and the building collapsed. Between two and six people were reported hurt, and police opened a case on who ran the unit without a licence.

Mills and godowns packed with stock

Both Kheda fires above burned stacked paper and plastic, which feed a fire quickly and send up thick smoke. Mills and godowns around Nadiad are close to farms and village lanes, so a late call for help costs time.
