Local risks in Bulandshahr

Home cylinder blasts

On the night of 21 October 2024 a cylinder blast in a house in Ashapuri Colony, Sikandrabad, brought the house down and killed six people, with eight more rescued; it was not settled whether the cylinder was a domestic LPG or an oxygen one. On 4 August 2026 a cylinder burst in a house in Khurja and the fire destroyed belongings and cash.

Highway and road crashes

On 16 October 2026 an Eeco hit a roadside tree on the Delhi-Badaun highway near Narora, killing five, among them a one-year-old girl and the driver, and badly hurting three; we cover it in a case study. On 18 June 2025 a car returning from a wedding hit a culvert near Janipur, overturned and caught fire, and five of one family died.

Narora Atomic Power Station

Narora, in Dibai tehsil, has a nuclear power station with two 220 MW units cooled from the Ganga barrage. A turbine fire there in 1993 took long to control, and the regulator called the delay a severe safety lapse and rated it Level 3 on the international nuclear event scale.

Ganga at Narora

On 16 August 2023 the water below the Narora barrage stood barely 0.135 m under the danger mark after heavy releases from Haridwar and Bijnor. People living near the river should treat a rising Ganga as a real local hazard in the monsoon.
