The chief fire officer said it had no fire NOC and a transformer inside the building, and about 2,200 hostels had already been served notices. In September 2025 two brothers died of smoke in a flat fire in Transport Nagar, which we cover in a case study.

Chambal flood and Kota Barrage releases

On 22 August 2022, PTI reported that 14 of the 19 barrage gates were open, releasing about 3.83 lakh cusecs after 224 mm of rain in the city. Water entered houses in Talwandi, Purana Kota, Bajrang Nagar, Jawahar Nagar and Station Road, and about 60 people were moved out of low-lying colonies.

Canals and idol immersion

On the evening of 20 October 2026, a small boat with seven people and a Durga idol capsized in the Chambal right main canal near the 80 Feet Road steel bridge. By the next morning two bodies had been found and two young men were missing, and officials said the spot was not a designated ghat. In March 2024, two children drowned in the Seenta canal near Kota, where police said the water's force was high.

Chemical and industrial fires

On 24 December 2021, a fire broke out at a chemical factory in the industrial area under Vigyan Nagar police station, and police evacuated the buildings around it. On 9 February 2026, Patrika reported a transformer short circuit that set chemical drums alight at a factory in Ranpur, with about a dozen fire engines sent and the area evacuated. Neither report mentions any casualty.

Malls and commercial buildings

On 29 April 2026, fire hit the second floor of City Mall and 12 fire tenders were engaged. The mall had not opened for the day, no injuries were reported and the cause was not stated. The SP said over a dozen fire stations joined the response with SDRF and civil defence.

Early on 17 October 2026, a mini-bus of pilgrims from Madhya Pradesh left the expressway near Karadiya and fell into a water-filled drain about 20 feet below. The Collector said eight were brought dead, and police suspect the driver dozed off, though the cause is not officially settled.
