Local risks in Pilibhit

Cooking-gas fires at home

On 13 October 2026 a cooking-gas cylinder fire at a home in Bamanpuri, Puranpur, killed a young child while other family members were taken for treatment; reports differ on how many were burned and no cause had been settled. We cover it in a case study.

Deoha and Sharda floods

In early September 2025 the Deoha and Sharda overflowed and flooded Puranpur, Kalinagar and Bisalpur tehsils, with dozens of villages marooned and about six wards of Pilibhit town surrounded by water. The Tanakpur highway was shut for three days, and the administration opened community kitchens and used boats.

Tiger attacks near the reserve

Two men were killed by tigers in May 2025 and a woman was killed at Shanti Nagar village on 3 June 2025, the third fatal attack in under a month. Villagers said the tiger had been prowling near the village for about a month without any action to capture it.

House and kitchen fires

On 9 June 2026 a kitchen fire in a three-storey house in Bilsanda spread to the second floor, and the fire brigade took about an hour to arrive. Firefighters worked for several hours and the losses ran into lakhs of rupees.

Sugar mill belt

Sugarcane is the district's main crop, and the portal names four sugar factories, at Majhola, Puranpur, Bisalpur and Pilibhit. Most rural fires in Uttar Pradesh come between March and June, the dry harvest months, so cane fields and mill yards need extra care then.
