Local risks in Ghaziabad

Fire in high-rise societies

On the morning of 29 April 2026, a fire that began on the 8th floor of a 13-floor society in Indirapuram destroyed an estimated 10 flats. Nobody died, but the first engine could not reach the 8th floor, a hydraulic engine came from Noida about half an hour later, and the power cut switched off the lifts while people were still on the upper floors. The cause was not confirmed.

Parking-floor fires that climb the building

On the night of 3 March 2026, a fire in the ground-floor parking of a five-storey building in Khoda Colony spread upwards, where nearly 150 people lived. At least two residents died in hospital, several were burnt, and about 10 fire engines worked for hours. A short circuit in parked vehicles was alleged, and police ordered a probe into the building's fire safety.

Factory and warehouse fires

On 11 June 2026, a fire in a ground-floor ink warehouse inside a chemical factory compound in Hindon Vihar needed seven fire engines and three foam tenders. No casualties were reported and the cause was not confirmed. A fire department survey reported in 2023 found 670 of 1,587 inspected buildings in the district without a fire NOC, including about two thirds of the 435 factories.

Hindon river floods

In July 2023, rescue teams used motorboats to bring out more than 50 people from Karhera village, where more than 8 feet of water had collected. Reports said the Hindon had breached an embankment near the city forest, and Ataur Nangla and Noor Nagar villages needed rescues too.

Muradnagar crematorium shelter collapse

Around noon on 3 January 2021, about 60 people sheltered from rain under a recently built shelter at the Ukhlarsi cremation ground, Muradnagar, when its roof slab fell. At least 23 people died and later reports gave 24 or 25; an early inspection pointed to substandard material and design problems, as we describe in our case study.
