Local risks in Agra

Shoe units and solvent adhesives

On 24 May 2002, a fire at the Shreeji International shoe factory in Jeoni Mandi killed 44 workers; 30 to 40 drums of flammable adhesive stood near the main staircase. In June 2026, another shoe factory near Dhakri ke Mahal in Jagdishpura caught fire and several fire engines were sent, according to Navbharat Live.

Locked stairs and meshed windows

In the Shreeji fire, the second staircase was kept behind a locked iron gate and the back-room windows had wire mesh, so 60 to 70 workers could not get out, as per the fire-service presentation. Any workroom needs a second way out that opens from inside.

Fire cover and response time

In 2002, the call reached Idgah fire station at 10:32 am and the first appliances arrived at 10:45 am, from a station about 7 km away. The state fire service now lists seven stations for Agra.

Yamuna floods

In September 2025, the Yamuna rose beyond the danger mark in Agra, reached the walls of the Taj Mahal again and flooded homes along the banks, according to News Arena. A local historian said the river was at the same levels as in 2023.
