Nashik Fire and Emergency Safety Guide

Nashik sits on the Godavari, and the river shapes both its holiest days and its worst floods. The city also has busy MIDC industrial areas, crowded ghats and lanes, and a long highway to Mumbai. With the Simhastha Kumbh Mela starting on 31 October 2026, crowd safety matters more than ever. This guide puts the emergency numbers, the district disaster line and the main local hazards on one page, with dated examples. A published list of the city's fire stations could not be found, so for a fire call 101 or 112.

The Simhastha Kumbh Mela at Nashik-Trimbakeshwar begins with flag hoisting at Ramkund and Trimbakeshwar on 31 October 2026 and ends on 24 July 2028. The main bathing days (Amrut Snan) in Nashik are 2 August, 31 August and 11 September 2027, and Nashik has 44 bathing events in all. Crowds here have turned deadly before. Around 12.40 pm on 27 August 2003, in a narrow lane leading to the Godavari, pilgrims going down to the river met people coming back from their dip. In the stampede and drowning that followed, 37 pilgrims died and 57 were hurt, though some reports give a toll of up to 39.

Godavari floods and dam releases

In the early hours of Friday 24 July 2026, the Godavari crossed the danger mark after the Gangapur dam, then 98.26 per cent full, released 14,407 cusecs. The small temples at Ramkund and Goda Ghat went under, the Ramkund area was closed for two days, and about 210 people were moved to safer places. Oxygen supply failure at a city hospital

On Wednesday 21 April 2021, a leak in the pipes connecting the ventilator system of Dr Zakir Hussain Municipal Hospital, a Covid facility, to its large oxygen tank cut the supply for about 30 to 35 minutes. At least 22 patients on ventilators died. Police registered a case, and the state health minister said the interruption could be linked to the deaths.

MIDC and factory fires in the district

On Sunday 1 January 2023, around 11.30 am, an explosion in the reactor plant of a poly film factory at Mundegaon village, Igatpuri taluka, started a fire. At least two people died and 17 were injured. Officials said grass had grown across the premises and flammable material lay everywhere, which made firefighting harder. On 4 February 2026, a fire at an incense-material unit in Malegaon MIDC, Sinnar taluka, spread through stored drums of a chemical; the workers were rescued and nobody was hurt. On 2 February 2024, about 4 pm, a fire broke out at a factory in the Musalgaon MIDC, Sinnar, again with no injuries reported.

Around 1.15 pm on 16 September 2026, a family vehicle with 11 reported occupants struck a stationary truck on the Mumbai-bound side of the Mumbai-Nashik highway near Atgaon, Shahapur taluka, Thane district. Later counts were 5 dead and 6 injured, as we cover in a case study. The cause had not been confirmed, and a possible brake or steering problem was only a preliminary account.
