Local risks in Bijnor

Train coach fire near Nagina

On the night of 23 October 2026, a fire in the S-6 sleeper coach of the Shaheed Express near Nagina station sent about 80 passengers out after the chain was pulled, and it was put out within roughly 10 to 30 minutes. Reports differ on injuries, a charging socket was blamed first and cracker material was found later, and we cover it in a case study.

Illegal and licensed cracker units

In April 2021, five labourers died and four were critically hurt when explosive material caught fire at an illegal cracker unit run from a house in the Bakshiwala area. In May 2024, one worker died and at least five were injured at a cracker factory in Jhalu township on Gangoh road.

Boiler blast at an ethanol plant on Nagina Road

On 12 September 2018, a boiler exploded at a plant on Nagina Road during repair work with welding under way, killing six labourers and injuring two more seriously. Police said the boiler had not run for days, and a case was registered against the plant's managers.

Godown fires in the old bazaars

Around midnight on Diwali night in 2022, a fire in a two-storey medicine warehouse in Shambha Bazaar took two fire engines to control and caused a loss of about 20 lakh rupees. A short circuit or a falling burning firework was suspected, which is why stocks near wiring and festival fireworks need care.

Floods on the Khoh and Ramganga

In July 2023, unseasonal floods on the Khoh river, a Ramganga tributary, hit villages in the Dhampur sub-division and Sherkot, with crop and land losses. Waterlogged roads and repeated flooding in the same villages every year are the pattern in this part of the district.
