Local risks in Zirakpur

Baltana furniture market fire, November 2026

Around 4 in the morning of 4 November 2026 a fire spread from shed to shed in the Baltana furniture market and gutted 22 tin sheds, with goods worth lakhs lost ahead of Diwali. Nobody died, a short circuit was suspected but not confirmed, and the sheds held furniture, paints, thinners and spirits on temporary electricity connections; it was the market's third fire in about two years, and we cover it in a case study.

Earlier Baltana fires, 2022 and 2024

On 13 September 2022 the top floor of a furniture showroom in the market was gutted, and fire officers found it had no fire NOC and no firefighting arrangement. On 27 May 2024 more than 24 kiosks on a vacant one-acre plot burned after a short circuit, with 12 fire engines needed and a commercial LPG warehouse nearby; reports differ on how many engines came in 2022.

Two wedding venues on fire, November 2025

On the night of 2 November 2025 a fire that began in one wedding venue on the Zirakpur-Panchkula road spread to the next, destroying the pandals at both while a wedding was on. Guests were taken out in time and nobody died; a short circuit was believed to be the cause, and the police officer said adequate fire safety measures had not been taken.

A growing town and a planned fire station

In September 2025 the foundation stone was laid for a dedicated fire station building at Zirakpur, costing Rs 1.91 crore, with the local MLA saying the town was fast becoming a hub of high-rise buildings. We could not confirm whether it is built and running, so keep 112 and 101 ready and know your building's exits.
